XPRESS is an artist-run print publisher and production studio making limited editions with artists.
Our master printer spent decades at the sharp end of screenprinting, including as master printer at Pictures on Walls, producing some of the editions that later became benchmarks of the form. So the ink is in fairly experienced hands.
We work primarily in analogue screenprint: ink, mesh, paper, pressure and judgement. Computers are avoided where possible.
We don’t print for the sake of printing. We believe in the medium, but more than that, we believe in great ideas. The things worth printing are the things worth keeping.
Sometimes a print becomes part of the record. Sometimes it just refuses to leave the wall. Either way, we like the idea that what we make might outlive the moment it was made in.
The point is not to make a reproduction of an artwork. It is to make another version of the artwork through print, something touched by the same decisions, accidents and imperfections.
As close to an original gesture as a multiple can reasonably get.
Printed properly. In limited numbers. Then we stop.
